This paper was produced for submission to the ONS Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence (ESCoE) as a deliverable for the researcher's grant from there.

The paper investigates the long-run effects of changes in trade and technology on worker outcomes for the UK. For this purpose, we study the effect of the exposure to Chinese imports arising from China's accession to the WTO in 2001, on employment outcomes and occupational transitions. We trace out the insurance provided by spouses through their labour market adjustments, and study regional spillovers from the local industry composition. We investigate the interrelationship between trade and technology, drawing on detailed industry data on technology investments.
