Social disadvantage, child health and attainment – NCRM Workshop

This workshop will present results of research projects that exploit the richness of the England and Wales Office for National Statistics Longitudinal Study (ONS LS) and the Scottish Longitudinal Study (SLS)

Presentations will look at possible pathways from social disadvantage to infant mortality in England and Wales; the potential mediating role of birth weight in the effect of parental socioeconomic disadvantage on childhood growth in Scotland; and models for grade attainments by Scottish children.

Methodological aspects arising from analysing record linkage studies such as the ONS LS and the SLS will also be discussed and guidelines for best use illustrated. The day will conclude with a discussion of lessons learned and future plans including an introduction to the Administrative Data Research Network.
